John recovers for fundraising walk

MAD man with a pram John Burkhill overcame a bout of illness to embark on his latest fundraising walk.

The Sheffield celebrity - famed for pounding the pavements in his trademark green wig - set out on a 60-mile journey to York from the city’s BBC radio station yesterday.

John, 73, aims to complete the trek in two days, just in time for the Jane Tomlinson Memorial Walk, which takes place on Sunday. Despite feeling under the weather during a rare week off, he is back and raring to go.

His Sheffield to York walk will raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support, the charity has devoted years of his life to fundraising for after losing his wife June to the disease.

John said: “I am okay, I might have to take it a bit slower than I usually do but nothing will stop me from raising that half a million for Macmillan.”
