John elected at second attempt

Bawtry residents have elected by a substantial majority the businessman John Walsh as their new town councillor.

Mr Walsh, who runs the Coco Ice cocktail bar on Market Hill, was voted on to Bawtry Town Council on polling day in the New Hall.

It was the second time this year that he has stood for election and a total of 571 residents turned out to vote.

Mr Walsh received 377 votes while Omid Khub, a Bawtry based solicitor, polled 194 votes.

The Mayor of Bawtry, Coun George Spencer, and his 11 fellow councillors are expected to officially welcome Mr Walsh as a colleague at the monthly meeting of the town council due to take place in the New Hall, Station Road, on Tuesday, November 13, at 7pm.
