Joe Scarborough will open art exhibition
The Burton Street Foundation is preparing for its upcoming art exhibition - '˜Art From The Heart' - which will be opened next week by artist Joe Scarborough.
The not-for-profit Hillsborough-based organisation, that works with adults and children with learning and physical disabilities, is opening up its site for a week-long, interactive art exhibition, running from Friday March 31 to Thursday April 6.
BSF manager Justin Sheppy said: “This is an exhibition to showcase the art work of our clients with learning disabilities. “We have such creative talent on this site, it’s everywhere you look and that’s something we really want to show the wider community.
“The event will be opened by Joe next Friday - an artist who has encapsulated much of Sheffield through his vibrant and bold work.
“We see art as a form of self-expression, which is why it is such a significant part of the work we do.
“It’s unique to every individual and in engaging in a piece of art the artist is communicating something of their very being - giving us an insight into the way they view the world.
“For many of those who attend Burton Street, articulating feelings and communicating emotions presents its own challenge, that’s why this art exhibition is a great opportunity to welcome people into a world that is often closed off.”
The exhibition will showcase artwork by adults with learning disabilities and dementia. Burton Street is making the event accessible to the public from April 1 to April 6, from 10am-4pm. There will also be various free workshops and sessions running during Saturday April 1, from 10:30am to 3pm, which are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
