Joe ready to hit the slopes

Joe Hides, aged 21, from Meersbrook, is hoping to ski his way to success next year, after recovering from a career-threatening knee injury he sustained in the European Cup in Slovenia last year.

The injury forced him to leave his skis behind for several months to focus on rehabilitation.

Concerned he was going to require knee surgery, Joe approached city sports physiotherapist Dr Michael Lee, of Sheffield Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy for help.

Joe said: “The injury left me undertain of my future, facing surgery and desperate to return to what I love - competing on the slopes.

“As soon as I began receiving treatment with Michael, the change was drastic and immediate; I felt stronger and happier.

“I arrived at the clinic thinking that I would eventually need surgery on my knee, but that is looking less and less likely now. My recovery has been as quick as I could hope for and I can’t thank Michael enough for the work we’ve done.

Joe, who has been skiing from the age of eight, began competing professionally on the World Cup circuit two years ago and also has his sights set on the Olypics in 2018.

Joe added: “After participating in almost every other sport you can imagine, I decided that skiing was the one I had the most fun and ultimately, brought me the most happiness.”

Dr Lee, a consultant sports physiotherapist and sports scientist said: “I am delighted that my treatment has taken Joe from a position where he was facing surgery and unable to ski, to being back on the slopes ready to compete again.”
