HE’S fast becoming the king of the waves – at the tender age of 15.
Wind surfing wonder Joe Bennett has his sights set on a place in the British Olympic squad – but his mum Helen says the lad has still got his feet very much on the ground.
Joe has returned from Cagliari, Sardinia, after scooping second place in the Under-17 World Championships.
His success comes shortly after he took third place in the European Championships, held in Bulgaria.
Joe, from Wingfield in Rotherham, ranked number one in the UK, spent a week at the contest in Cagliari battling sea conditions including three metre tidal swells and 25 knot winds.
The Year 11 pupil at Wingfield Business and Enterprise College started windsurfing aged seven when his dad took him to Rother Valley Country Park.
He then applied for the RYA North and West Zone Windsurfing Squad and was successful.
Proud mum said: “Joe’s ambition is to make it to the Olympic squad..”
