Jobs going in steel closure

ENGINEERING workers are being made redundant with a steel firm shutting its Roth-erham plant.

Firth Rixson is closing the William Oxley works, in Rotherham Road, Parkgate - one of the town’s oldest engineering works - and transferring operations to its River Don site in Attercliffe .

Firth Rixon was bought by the worldwide private equity firm Carlyle three years ago - and the rest of William Oxley’s business will be transferred to factories in the US.

The company says 30 of William Oxley’s 50 staff will move but the remainder have chosen redundancy, following lengthy negotiations.
