A FLAGSHIP retro knitwear store has opened in Meadowhall shopping centre - creating 12 new jobs.

The original team behind cult brand The Sweater Shop - popular with young people in the 1980s and ’90s - unveiled the flagship modern revival store called 019 Sweater Shop.

Ben de Zille Butler, grandson of the original brand founder, Brian de Zille, has been leading the launch.

Stuart Margetts, Meadowhall retail director, said: “We are very excited to see the return of The Sweater Shop and honoured the de Zille family has chosen us to be the home of their flagship store.

“We’ve had a great reaction from shoppers who remember the brand from their youth and we’re expecting the store to be popular with young trendsetters eager to emulate the 1990s look.”
