A TOTAL of 32 retained firefighters will lose their jobs under plans drawn up by fire chiefs to save £10 million, not 38 as reported in yesterday’s Star.
The part-time firefighters are based at Mosborough and Royston stations, both earmarked for closure, and Edlington, which will stay open.
Plans to save cash have been put forward by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Government funding cuts could see their budget reduced by £10 million by 2015.
Bosses want to close Mansfield Road and Darnall stations in Sheffield and replace them with one new base off The Parkway. A new station would also be built in Birley.
