Jason Tali '˜centre of attention' as Dons prepare for Barrow test

Despite the fact that the Papua New Guinea star made a delayed start to the season as a result of delays obtaining a clearance, he topped the club's try-scoring charts at the end of the regular season and says there is more to come.

Tali didn’t make his first appearance for the club until the seventh game of the campaign which saw the Dons make a surprise exit from the iPro Cup at home to London Skolars.

Even though he admits that he struggled to cope with the pace of the games due to lack of match fitness during his early appearances in a Doncaster shirt that didn’t stop him bagging eight tries in the next five games.

Three of them came in the narrow defeat away to former club Newcastle Thunder which left him with mixed feelings at the final whistle.

Despite the result, Tali says he has no regrets at switching clubs.

“I enjoyed it at Newcastle but Doncaster are a bigger club. The training facilities are a lot better and the coaching is good,” he said.

Tali also scored a brace in the hard-fought 21-18 win over Barrrow Raiders at the Keepmoat Stadium in only his second league game.

The two sides meet at the same venue again this weekend in the club’s opening Super 8s game following the postponement of their scheduled opener at York.

Barrow will come into the game boosted by their 34-12 win over second-placed Rochdale at the weekend – a result which saw them climb into the top four.

“They are a big side and have some good players,” said Tali.

He is, however, backing the Dons – even though they could be without both first-choice half-backs – to claim the spoils.

“It’s going to be a big game but I like playing in the big games and we know that these are the games we need to win,” he said.

“I think League One is tougher than it was last season and there are going to be no easy games from here.”
