Jacknife lorry causes M1 chaos

THERE were long delays on the M1 last night near Meadowhall when a lorry jack-knifed and landed on its side, blocking all three lanes.

The accident, at around 6.30pm, also caused severe congestion on the Parkway for motorists heading towards the motorway.

The lorry had been travelling southbound between junctions 34 and 35 when the accident happened.

Police also had to block off two northbound lanes because of debris from the crash. The hard shoulder was left open to try to ease congestion, but long queues still built up.

At around midnight the motorway was closed off completely for the lorry to be removed.
