‘I’ve often thought’ - Sheffield footballer Harry Maguire drops hint on life after Man Utd and England

England international Harry Maguire is already starting to look ahead to life after professional football

Former Sheffield United star Harry Maguire has revealed that he’s started to think about going into coaching in the future.

The Manchester United ace, who was raised in the village of Mosborough before developing into a first team regular at Bramall Lane, has racked up nearly 300 appearances in the Premier League and has represented England over 65 times at international level - reaching a European Championship final and a World Cup semi-final in the process.

He’s still under contract at Old Trafford until 2027 after helping the club secure a return to the Champions League, but in the background has also been working on planning the next phase of his career.

Maguire, who is renowned for being a vocal presence on the pitch, has completed his UEFA B Licence and is now preparing for his A - the highest practical coaching award available.

The 33-year-old has worked under some serious coaches in his time, starting with names like Kevin Blackwell and Danny Wilson in S2 before working under Steve Bruce at Hull, Brendan Rodgers at Leicester and at Old Trafford, the likes of Jose Mourinho, Erik ten Hag and now Michael Carrick.

Maguire has a passion for coaching but still believes one area of the game can be improved - the quality and consistency of feedback.

As quoted by Training Ground Guru: “Better feedback builds better players. Ive always believed, from a young age, that feedback is so important and can make you a much better player in the future.”

That school of thought led him to co-found Feedz, an AI-powered app that turns a coach’s voice note into a structured, professional performance report in under a minute.

Maguire explains that the app is not just a business venture, but something that he could apply to his own sessions in the future if he decides to go down that particular path.

The Sheffielder added: “I’ve done my UEFA B and I’ve thought about it (coaching) in the future.

“For sure, Feedz is something that will help me if I go down that route. From a young age, I’ve always wanted feedback – even when I was a young boy. I don’t think it was as good as it can be, especially in academies.

“I think there’s so much time these coaches have to put into sessions and the sessions are finishing late at night. They can’t really give too much feedback to each individual player.

“This is where Feedz can step in. It saves so much time. It’s so simple. I think it’d be really beneficial to the club and the players.”

Could Harry Maguire become a manager one day?

Based on his track record, as a former captain of Manchester United, and a key figure in the England squad which has gone as close as any since 1966 to winning a trophy, it’s fair to say that Maguire has many of the tools to succeed as a coach having coped in high pressure environments as a player.

He’s also had to overcome adversity following the pressure of living up to the scrutiny of being at one time the most expensive defender in football history, and falling out of favour under certain managers before often convincing them to put him back in the team.

The Sheffield United Junior Head of Coaching Matt Morley heaped praise on Maguire, he said: “His rapport, his communication, just the way he conducts himself: first class.

“But it’s also in terms of how he’s conducted himself. That links back into Feedz – in terms of how you communicate, what information you want to give and how that information impacts the player.”
