It’s still not too late to put matters right

So that’s it then. The philistines and the bullyboys have finally won and our city (and the nation) has lost an important Grade II listed building.

I don’t know how the powers-that-be at Sheffield University and at Sheffield City Council can sleep at night after committing this great travesty.

But I’ve no doubt that the champagne corks will now be popping.

Everyone knows, including them, that the listed building could easily have been incorporated into the new development and still could be.

It is still not too late to put matters right, on the back of their victory, without losing face.

The damage to both the city’s and the university’s image and reputation will be enormous long term but I don’t suppose that it will bother them one iota.
