Isle motorbike enthusiasts urged to take part in chariy ride

After Eastoft’s Pete Walker announced he was taking part in the Guy Martin’s Big Brew by growing sideburns, friend Helen Thompson agreed to get involved in a different way.

Helen, 41, of Pademoor Terrace, will be taking part in a 78 mile motorbike ride from the village in aid of the same cause, a charity into spinal injuries research.

She explained: “Pete got in touch and asked if I could help with his fundraising, he mentioned arranging a ride out because I am part of the biking circuit.

“It’s the first time I’ve done anything like this, and we’re hoping to raise £1,000 in total.”

Care worker Helen, who recently passed her CBT, will be joined by husband Gavin, 46, during the event which will see them travel from Eastoft to the Seaways Cafe in Driffield and back, on Saturday May 3.

She is hoping other bikers will also get involved.

Fellow fundraiser Pete Walker, 53, of The Old Moorings is following in the footsteps of road racing legend and TV star Guy Martin by letting his facial hair go wild to raise money.

The challenge is all part of Guy Martin’s Big Brew - a national event where people are asked to stick the kettle on for charity. As part of this there is also a contest to see who can grow the best sidies like Guy.

Pete said: “I’ve known Helen from living in the village and she’s always been more than helpful. Knowing that she is a bit of a biker chick I thought who better to organise a ride out?”

Any bikers wishing to take part should meet at the River Don pub in Eastoft at 9.30am for a 10am start.
