This year’s theme is challenging children and young people aged four years-old and above to enter the Mythical Maze – a labyrinth with fantastical creatures from legends mythology.

They are invited to join in the challenge, which runs until September 5 at Haxey Library, and read at least six books and share their experiences with library staff during the summer holidays. There will be stickers to collect, small prizes and a certificate on the way to receiving a special medal.

It is the 16th Summer Reading Challenge that North Lincolnshire Library Services has taken part in.

The challenge aims to promote enjoyment of reading for pleasure and create a real buzz around children’s reading to get more children and young people reading regularly.

Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for customer services, sport and leisure, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a brilliant way to encourage children and young people to read, and enjoy doing it. There are so many benefits to reading regularly including using your imagination and improving reading skills.

“I would encourage all families to take part in the Reading Challenge. It is a fantastic project. Let’s see if we can get even more children and young people reading books this year.”

If you would like your child/children to take part then simply visit the library, however they must be members. If they aren’t it isn’t too late, it is quick, easy and free to join.
