History is pitted with great '˜fights' that never happen.

out-boxing a brave but  average Samuel Vargas in Birmingham.

The bigger question had always been how the post-fight would go - would Khan accepts Brook's investigation to a December dance? Well, not exactly.

The Bolton welterweight, in his second fight since returning to the ring after a two-year absence, said: "The only fight that works for me over Kell Brook is Manny Pacquiao. I want him, he is my number one pick. If not we go back to the drawing board and if it's Kell Brook, it's Kell Brook."

So that's settled then?

Brook, like most, were less than impressed with Khan's performance or his comments.

The Ingle man insists he can come back down to 147lbs to face Khan at welterweight. He told Sky Sports: "I'll come down because I'm the governor of the division in this country. I will come down to welterweight to fight him. When? Christmas. I want it to be a Christmas Day special!"

Santa - or Eddie Hearn, as he is known - has a tall order getting Khan down Brook's chimney.

Eddie tried his best to press Khan with a 'now or never message.' But Khan is his own man.

And if he's messed with Brook's head, just that little bit more, that's two missions accomplished in one night.
