Last week, Yorkshire Cancer Research made an important point about the north-south divide in terms of the investment in cancer research by national charities.
There are a number of local charities, including Yorkshire Cancer Research and Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity who are investing in research which is taking place as we speak, in Sheffield, research which benefits cancer patients now and in the future.
Last year Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity invested £475,000 in research which is taking place in Sheffield; this represents our largest-ever investment.
As a charity we feel it’s imperative to invest in the work of more junior researchers, to give them the chance to develop into becoming the leading researchers of tomorrow.
We also choose to invest into areas of cancer research for which Sheffield and Weston Park Hospital is considered to be a ‘leading light’ such as breast and bone cancers.
Those who want to see cancer research in Sheffield thrive, can chose to support a local cancer charity and those interested in finding out more about the work of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s ‘Take a Closer Look’ campaign can visit us at: www.wphcc.org.uk/research
