Fire investigators spent a second day at a house in Sheffield where a man’s body was found after a blaze.

Arthur Barker, in his 70s, was found dead in his home on Landseer Walk, Gleadless Valley, on Thursday morning.

A fire had broken out in the area around his gas fire, filling his home with smoke.

Neighbours, who had not seen any flames, became concerned for his safety when they realised they had not seen him for a couple of days.

When they called at his house they spotted soot on the windows and realised the panes of glass were hot to the touch.

Mr Barker, a retired engineer, lived alone.

He used to visit The Bagshaw Arms in Norton most days and was a keen walker during the summer.
