Investigation underway after patient is found with injuries in South Yorkshire hospital

An investigation has been launched after a patient suffered serious injuries at Rotherham District General Hospital.

The man, aged 20, was found injured on Thursday night and was transferred to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

The incident was reported to South Yorkshire Police but it is not being treated as a criminal matter.

A spokesman for the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust said: “Following an incident at the hospital on Thursday, March 23, a male patient suffered serious injuries and was transferred to the Northern General Hospital where he is currently being treated.

"The Trust is undertaking a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to reports that a man had been injured at Rotherham District General Hospital at about 6.40pm on Thursday, March 23.

"The man, aged 20, currently remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident or the man’s injuries."
