The club drew a home-final tie against either Glasgow Rocks or Leeds Force in the BBL Cup and an away match against Worcester Wolves in the first round of the BBL Trophy. Sharks captain Mike Tuck was present to draw the away sides for the BBL Cup and BBL Trophy as both draws were conducted live on the BBL Facebook page.

After finishing in the top four last year, Sharks were rewarded with a bye and a home tie for the BBL Cup, allowing Tuck and his Sharks side to watch Glasgow and Leeds fight for the right to play Sheffield in the quarter-final.

“Glasgow are a strong team, they just signed back Gareth Murray and they have Keiron Achara, so it will be interesting” Tuck said. “And again Leeds are a young, hungry team and it’s a Yorkshire derby it could be an interesting match-up either way.”

Tuck then pulled his team’s name out of the bowl in the subsequent BBL Trophy draw, handing Sharks a round-of-16 away tie against a fellow top four team from the past season, Worcester Wolves. Sharks will hoping to go one step further than last year in the Trophy and reach the final, whilst also hoping to better last year’s Cup performance of being knocked out at quarter-final stage. Both the Cup and Trophy are single-legged knockout competitions until the semi-finals, which will be played over two legs.

The Cup and Trophy finals will take place on the 15th January 2017 and the 19th March 2017 respectively.
