Interchange earns national award for safety and design

PASSENGERS using Adwick Interchange can rest assured it is one of the safest in Yorkshire.

The interchange has received a national award for its top class safety, security, station design and management under the Secure Stations Scheme, which is managed by the Department for Transport in partnership with the British Transport Police and the Crime Concern charity.

To gain the award Adwick Interchange was assessed to establish the reality of crime, passengers’ perceptions, the physical environment of the station and station management.

It has also shown good systems for managing and monitoring safety procedures as well as minimising and dealing with crime and disorder issues.

David Young, head of transport integration at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, said: “This is great news for Adwick and we are honoured to receive this award. The Secure Station Scheme reinforces the fact that safety and security for our staff and passengers are our top priorities.

“We have listened to the views of passengers over the years and are very committed to providing a safe environment to access public transport.”

The interchange was praised for good station design and safety features such as CCTV.
