Inquest due into death of Sheffield student after night out in city

An inquest is to be held today into the death of a popular Sheffield student who died after taking drugs on a night out on the city.

Joana Burns aged 22, died after taking MDMA - a form of Ecstasy - on a night out at The Foundry in the University of Sheffield's Students' Union building on Glossop Road last June.

Joana, from Alfreton, Derbyshire, was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Another Sheffield Hallam University student, aged 20, was left critically ill after taking MDMA in The Foundry on the same night.

At Joana's funeral last year, mourners were asked to make donations in her memory 'to help raise drugs awareness amongst Sheffield students'.

The inquest is to be held at the Medico Legal Centre in Sheffield.
