Inmate gets his chance

A VISIT to a young offenders’ institution in Doncaster has resulted in Hatfield Town Council providing seasonal work for one of the long-term inmates.

A lad with horticultural experience is being recruited on a trial basis to work in the Peace Garden and on flower beds in Hatfield cemetery for the rest of the summer.

Members of the Town Council had been invited to look round Moorland Open YOI earlier this year and while they there staff suggested some of the prisoners would be suitable for employment in the community on various tasks.

After discussion with the cemetery supervisor, it was agreed he could make use of someone with gardening experience and councillors have approved the recommendation.
