An independent burger restaurant in Sheffield paid tribute to its customers after shutting its doors this weekend.

The 8oz Burger Co on Leopold Street announced it would be closing its doors on social media earlier this month.

After their final day in trading on Sunday, July 15, the independent restaurant thanked their customers and announced it was a 'pleasure to be in Sheffield'.

The burger joint arrived in the city centre two years ago and also had a restaurant in Barnsley, which has now changed to the Backyard BBQ.

Posting on Facebook, the restaurant announced: "After a fantastic 2 years in Sheffield, sadly we have decided to close our independent burger restaurant.

"Our final day will be Sunday 15th July!!

"Instead of mourning our loss, we’d prefer to celebrate the last couple of weeks with you committed followers! So head down, get your last fix, try that burger you always said you would!!

"Massive thanks and much respect.....see you again. BURGER BEER BLISS...forever!! xxx."

The store also announced that anybody wishing to purchase the fully fitted restaurant for £15k.

Customers were quick to share their disappointment at the restaurant's closure on Facebook.

Martin McAteer posted: "So sad always called when over in Sheffield."

Fran Laws commented: "Oh no, loved your burgers xx"

Liz Kieran posted: "What a great shame, your burgers are the best around."

Anna Preston: "Aww I'm a coeliac and very limited in what I can eat, 8oz has always been so accommodating to my needs and has the BEST gluten free burgers around!!"

The restaurant's closure follows Urban Pantry's decision to shut the doors of their Crookes shop earlier this month after six years in business.
