Martyn Wilson, of Thornbridge Road, was caught by two female teachers at the secondary school, which is in the small market town of Bingham in Nottinghamshire.

“Shocked and disgusted”, one of the teachers took the car’s registration number on her mobile phone and reported the matter to the police.

Wilson pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court to a charge of indecent exposure on Monday, September 28 last year near to Toot Hill School, which has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted status.

Denis Quinn, prosecuting, told the court that teachers Harriet Walsh and Jo Kitchener were walking towards Bingham town centre during their lunchbreak.

There were a lot of parked cars in the area, and as they drew alongside one of them, they saw Wilson at the wheel, naked and “pleasuring himself”.

“The two women looked at each other in shock and disbelief,” said Mr Quinn. “They felt disgusted, especially as it was so close to a school.

“They were not sure that they were targeted specifically, but just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Wilson’s solicitor, Helen Rooks, mitigating, said the offence was “clearly out of character”.

“He was suffering from considerable stress at the time,” said Miss Rooks.

“He had just lost his job and his relationship had broken down. He had lost his accommodation and he had a prostate illness that he feared was worse than it turned out to be.

“He expresses his regret and embarrassment. It was a one-off, unlikely to happen again.

“He has since made considerable strides. He has secured rented accommodation, is back in employment and has spoken to his partner about possible reconciliation.”

Deputy District Judge Elizabeth Harte sentenced Wilson to a community order for 12 months when he must be supervised by the probation service.

He was told to pay court costs of £200, compensation of £100 to the teachers and a victim surcharge of £60.

Wilson will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years.
