Income tax plea to Chancellor

Have your say

TOP Sheffield Lib Dem councillor Shaffaq Mohammed has joined more than 100 colleagues from across the country calling on Chancellor George Osborne to make helping those on low and middle incomes a priority in next Wednesday’s budget.

Coun Mohammed, group leader on Sheffield Council, and fellow grass roots Lib Dems are urging the Government to ‘move further and faster’ on raising to £10,000 the threshold at which people begin to pay income tax.

They say the move will ensure more than 2.5 million people are lifted out of paying tax altogether and give millions more people £60 extra in their pockets each month.
