James Shield looks at the man who Sheffield United are looking towards to add to their strike force in the Championship this coming season.

Club: Southampton

Age: 22

Height: 1.93m

Country Represented: Scotland and England

Contracted Until: 30 June 2021

Biography: Chris Wilder first considered a move for the powerfully built centre-forward last summer only to be gazumped by Birmingham City. However, having seen his recruitment budget increased by co-owners Kevin McCabe and HRH Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during the close season with the potential of more to come following David Brooks’ move to AFC Bournemouth, Gallagher has now moved into United’s price range. Although his time at St Andrews proved a frustrating experience, thanks to a combination of behind the scenes politics and niggling injuries, the youngster remains highly-rated within the game. Technically strong as well as physical, Gallagher has also gained experience with Blackburn Rovers and MK Dons since graduating from the youth programme at St Mary’s. With Mark Hughes’ side preserving their Premier League status, he is expected to seek another switch to a Championship club before the beginning of the new campaign. Perhaps the only obvious stumbling block is that brokering a deal for his services is likely to demand a significant financial commitment on United’s part.

Possibility: 8/10
