It is perhaps one of Sheffield’s busiest and most famous streets - and it’s changed a bit over the decades!

Fargate has long been the beating retail heart of the city, with shoppers flocking from far and wide to browse its wide range of shops and stores.

However, its certainly seen a few changes during its history - switching from a road teeming with traffic to a busy pedestrian area.

And landmarks have come and gone too - remember the Goodwin Fountain, famously referenced in Pulp’s Disco 2000?

There have also been a few ambitious plans that have never quite got off the ground too - include a huge glass roof.
We’ve dippped back into our archives to take a look at Fargate through the 60s through to the 90s.
