TRANSPORT buses are bidding for £4.9 million of Government funding to help pay for measures to make bus services quicker.
The proposals, by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, will also qualify for £7.3 million of council cash if given ministerial approval.
The plans aim to achieve growth of 1,225,000 new passenger trips and save carbon dioxide emissions.
Funding is proposed for bus smartcards, so it is easier and faster to board.
Also planned with the cash are a number of bus priority improvements around Sheffield including the city centre, Ecclesall Road, Mansfield Road/Manor Top and City Road, as well as in Thrybergh in Rotherham, in Woodfield Way in Doncaster, and in Barnsley.
