The Owlerton hero has revealed how he is stepping up his preparations heading into the New Year as he continues to recover from serious injuries suffered in April.

Despite seeing his career left in jeopardy following a horror crash at Rye House, the inspirational Tigers’ No.1 will be back to lead his hometown club when next season gets underway.

With just a few months remaining until the tapes rise, Stead has given a positive update on his progress.

“Getting back to full fitness is a massive ongoing focus for me,” Stead said.

“I’m still not at 100% but that’s to be expected, and overall I’m really happy with my progression.

“I’m up to doing five training sessions a week now, twice with Ryan Rhodes and then with a personal trainer three times a week.

“I’m very happy with where things are at this stage and I expect to be even fitter than I was at the start of last season.

“That’s my aim and it’s something I believe I’m on track for. I wouldn’t have signed if I didn’t feel I’d be ready, so I’m pleased to be stepping things up heading into the New Year and getting close to full fitness.

“It’s been a long time now since getting injured so I’m excited for next season to start so I can get back riding again.

“There are only a few months left now, so I’ll keep working hard and it will be March before we know it.”
