Officers from Humberside Police were called to the A18 between Crowle and Althorpe just after 1.45pm on Tuesday, July 8, after they received reports that a body of a man had been seen in the river close to Pilfrey Bridge.

Yesterday evening a police spokesman said: “Officers are currently in attendance at the scene to establish the circumstances of the incident.

“The identity of the man has not yet been established and officers are now working to remove the body from the water.”

The bridge is at the confluence of three rivers and it is believed the body was spotted in the River Torne, which flows from the Doncaster area to the Trent.

The Torne rises at Sandbeck Hall, in Maltby, and empties into the River Trent at Keadby pumping station. Much of the channel is used for drainage of Hatfield Chase.
