An ideal solution

A very interesting letter from Professor Davies regarding the siting of the HS2 station within the Sheffield region.

He rightly states there are advantages of both Meadowhall and the city centresite of the former Victoria station.

His ideal solution is to build two stations, one at Meadowhall for trains continuing on to Leeds and at the Victoria by building another route into Sheffield, for trains terminating from London.

I am not sure whether he has costed this out but I am sure HS2 Ltd would be fascinated to hear of this imaginative suggestion.

Within HS1 and HS2 Sheffield would be the only city to have two stations on the high-speed network, apart from London with St Pancras (HS1) and Euston (HS2). The impact on city regeneration would be immeasurable.
