Great Britain's World championship hopes were dealt a hammer blow today as Kazakhstan hammered them 6-1 in Budapest.

Former Sheffield Steeler Luke Ferrara put GB ahead within 2 minutes 33 seconds, scoring from Brendan Brooks.But GB's penalty killers could not hold out at 14;28 when Dmitri Grents equalised - and from then on it was all downhill.Steelers' Davey Phillips and British team-mate Mark Richardson both took penalties but it was an even-handed strike that gave Kazakhstan the lead for the first time, Anton Sagadeyev making it 1-2.Two minutes later they had extended their lead, Roman Starchenko beating Ben Bowns.Disaster struck GB in the final period, they conceded two goals in four minutes, from Starchenko and Nikita Mikhailis.Coach Peter Russell called a time out and changed goalies, at 6-1 down, Bowns making way for Jackson Whistle at 45;55.*Both teams won their opening games at the Division 1 Group A tournament, with GB beating top seeds Slovenia 3-1 and Kazakhstan securing a 3-0 win over hosts Hungary.
