Ian McKellen stars in Sheffield cinema screening of Shakespeare tragedy

Light Cinema on The Moor is introducing NT (National Theatre) Live performances to its increasing arts repertoire.

First to be screened is King Lear featuring Ian McKellen on Thursday (September 27), followed by The Madness of George lll on Tuesday, November 20 and Anthony & Cleopatra with Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo on Thursday, December 6.

King Lear has Ian McKellen playing the tragic king. The actor is famous worldwide through the X-Men series and of course as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

He has been in numerous plays at the Crucible, including co-starring with Patrick Stewart in Harold Pinter's No Man's Land two years ago. He appeared at the theatre in its very first production in 1972.

The screening of King Lear also coincides with the Crucible's next Shakespeare production, A Midsummer Night's Dream, running from Friday to October 20.
