'I'm not ready to leave my children without their mum' - Sheffield cancer patient's heartbreaking message in plea to help fund treatment

A devoted Sheffield mum-of-three has launched a desperate appeal to help her see her children grow up after being told her cancer had returned and cannot be cured.

Eilish Jennings, of Norfolk Park, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2016 when 34 weeks pregnant with twins and went on to have a double mastectomy and was told the treatment had been successful.

But she was dealt the devastating blow that cancer had returned on March 21 - the second birthday of her twin boys - and was told it was something the NHS couldn't cure.

Her devoted partner Simon Hobson launched a Facebook fundraising campaign to help raise £300,000 to fund treatment abroad and more than £26,000 was totted up in just a day.

Eilish, 36, said: "This treatment could keep the cancer at bay, there are patients who continue to live long, good lives. But ultimately I just want more time, time with my beautiful children Elise, Billy and Tom and, of course, Simon.

"I'm not ready to leave my children without a mother and I ask from the bottom of my heart and for the future of my wonderful family, please can everyone support, fundraise, donate and help me secure the treatment we so desperately need?"

Simon, 40, said he hoped to get Eilish enough money for treatment so that she can see her two-year-old twin boys Billy and Tom and daughter Elise, four, grow up.

He said: "Things are awful but you get to a point where you are feeling the worst but as time goes by and you speak to people, you start taking what they say on board and begin to focus on what you can do rather than what you can't.

"She just wants to see her kids grow up and start school and have their first boyfriend and girlfriend - it's little things like that."

Eilish's health problems began just weeks before she was due to give birth in March 2016 and the twins were born just four days after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Simon added: "She went through everything over the next six to eight months and had a double mastectomy. She had a reconstruction and that led to a few problems and we were literally to and from the hospital for months.

"These are things you can't put into words but it was just a nightmare from start to finish."

The family were dealt the devastating blow about the cancer returning when Eilish went for the results of her biopsy last week.

Simon said she had a 3cm tumour in her lymph node under her right arm and a separate one in her neck and they had been told by doctors at Weston Park Hospital that it was manageable by chemotherapy but not curable.

He added: "We found out it was cancer on the twins second birthday - we had got the cake in the car, the balloons were all over the house. It was awful.

"Everything that's happened seems to have happened on a special date - it's freaky."

Simon said the family was taking advice on possible clinics which could treat the tumour and had been told about one in Germany.

"Eilish is going to have some clinical trials but we can't just rest on our laurels and wait until everything is confirmed. We need to raise the cash and it's there for whatever we need it for.

"We had £26,000 in just a day - the response has been amazing. We can't thank people enough."
