I just want to play football, says Blades star Campbell-Ryce

The former Jamaican international, speaking in yesterday’s Star, revealed he wants to win “leagues and promotions” with United.

His contract, however, ends at the end of the current season but Campbell-Ryce said: “Being a footballer, the main thing is that you want to play football. Simple as that.

“I’m not here to train or just keep fit... I want to be out there, where it really matters, and be involved.”

Campbell-Ryce impressed during Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Blackpool, which took United to within a point of the play-offs.

Their blank weekend - they host Wigan next Saturday - means some ground will inevitably be lost but Campbell-Ryce, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, added: “The first half at Blackpool was really positive. I got past my man a few times and got some crosses into the box,” the winger, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, added.

“In the second half, I tired a bit which was understandable. Especially on that pitch. It was very, very bad.

“You don’t realise how bad until you get out there. There were times when you’d watch the ball coming towards you and then it would just go the other way.

“You couldn’t predict it.”
