‘I can’t believe I now own Sean Bean’s car’ - actor boosts Sheffield charity

Sheffield actor Sean Bean drove up the total amount raised at a star-studded fundraiser - by auctioning off his Land Rover car for £8,000.

The Hollywood star donated the vehicle to help collect cash for Weston Park Cancer Hospital Charity, of which he is a trustee.

It was auctioned off at a Sheffield United gala dinner held at Chatsworth House.

Singer and pianist Myleen e Klass also made a surprise appearance on the night, performing in front of 160 guests and taking home United kits for her two daughters.

The star of Game of Thrones, Sharpe and Lord of the Rings was asked by Sheffield United, the Football League club he has supported since childhood, if he would provide an auction item for a gala dinner the Blades are organising to raise vital l funds for the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.
 
Sean stunned everyone by donating his 1973 green Land Rover, which has been personalised with his signatures and self-penned Blades motifs, for auction at the event at the Duke and Duchess of Devonshires Chatsworth House stately home on Sunday (Dec 6).
 
When we made the request to Sean we anticipated getting some signed memorabilia, never did we imagine that Sean would provide his very own Land Rover, said Operations Director Dave McCarthy.

The charity auction raised more than £20,000 in total, including the £8,000 bid for the Land Rover owned by Blades fan Sean.

Derbyshire businessman Chris Miller, who was the successful bidder, said: “I can’t believe I now own Sean’s vehicle.

“It needs a bit of work but it’ll be a fantastic project to work on.”

Other items auctioned included holidays to the Maldives and Las Vegas, a special framed canvas of the latest Joe Scarborough painting which depicts Bramall Lane and various items of memorabilia.

The night also featured performances from tenor John Hudson as well as Sheffield-born singing star Paul Pashley and the 2013 BBC Chorister of the Year, Ella Taylor, also from Sheffield.

Sheffield United operations director and Weston Park patron, Dave McCarthy, said: “This was a spectacular event that will stay long in the memory.

Tina Harrison, deputy director of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, said: “The Sheffield United Gala Dinner was a magical event which has raised an outstanding amount for the cancer charity. We are completely overwhelmed to have raised such a large amount.”
