A SOUTH Yorkshire cyclist killed in a collision with a car had only been married for three months.
Maria Micklethwaite, aged 36, of Ouson Gardens, Carlton, Barnsley, was on a training run ahead of a triathlon when she was involved in a crash with a Ford Focus on Friday, January 20.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision in South Hiendley, near Wakefield, and an inquest has been opened.
Maria, who grew up in Gawber, worked as a midwife at Rotherham District General Hospital and in A&E.
Maria and husband Ian, who met at Kingstone Runners’ Club, ran a number of races together, including the Barnsley 10k, London Marathon and Great North Run.
Ian, a plumber, said: “We planned to live happily ever after and just enjoy each other’s company.
“We were so happy. The wedding was fantastic. She looked absolutely beautiful.
“I am so glad I got to marry her because it was the happiest day of both our lives. I’m so happy that she was my wife.
“She was always happy and jolly and a pleasure to be with.
“The first thing you would notice about her was her massive smile.”
