Hunt for mugger at Doncaster rail station

A mugger who tried to snatch a bag of money from a passenger at Doncaster railway station is today being hunted by police,

British Transport Police detectives investigating the attempted robbery of are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 2.20pm on Thursday of last week.

The offence involved a man attempting to grab a carrier bag containing a large amount of money from a passenger he had followed to the station.

Det Sgt Paul Kazimierczyk, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “The victim, a 22-year-old man from the Mexborough area, was followed to the station by a man who then attempted to grab the bag he was carrying and pull it from him.

“A scuffle ensued, the victim fell to the floor and the would-be robber left empty handed.

“I would urge anyone who may have been at Doncaster rail station at around 2-2.45pm last Thursday to contact us; you may have seen or heard something which could prove vital to our investigation.”

Officers are continuing to make extensive enquiries, including trawling CCTV from the station and surrounding area.
