Chesterfield police are searching for three men who tried to con an elderly man out of thousands of pounds.
On February 18, a group of men offered to carry out some minor work at the house of a 73-year-old man in Old Whittington.
He paid them for the work but they returned the next day and demanded £4,000 from the man. He visited a bank in Chesterfield town centre to withdraw the money but bank staff were concerned and called police.
The victim can only describe the three men as white and speaking with Irish accents. Two of them were in their 30s and one looked slightly older. They drove a small silver car.
He was visited by a man again on February 29 but did not give him any money. Police are working with the man and family to increase security.
Detectives are investigating and are appealing for anyone who has seen suspicious men, or their car, in the area to call them on 101 quoting crime reference number 7562/16, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
