Hunt for escaped Doncaster pigs ends as second escaped animal is recaptured

Two pigs who escaped from the back of a trailer in Doncaster have been reunited after the second animal was recaptured after a search.

Kunekune pigs Nora and Dotty were being transported to an animal sanctuary in Lincolnshire when they somehow managed to flee their trailer as it travelled through Tickhill.

Nora was the first to be caught and now bosses at Gainsborough’s Sunflower Park have now confirmed that the pair are back together after Dotty was also captured.

In a Facebook post, a spokesman said: “We can’t believe it but she’s finally finished her journey home to meet the rest of the crazy gang at Sunflower Park

“She was found this afternoon (yesterday) with the fantastic help of Phillip from Drone SAR for Lost Dogs UK - with only minutes to spare on his last battery - also Iain and Alex from Messingham Zoo

“She was nested in a field on the opposite side of the road to where we found Nora. The search came to a fantastic although knackering end with a giant rugby tackle from all and a helping carry into the trailer

“We would like to say a gigantic thank you from us all at Sunflower Park. We couldn’t have found her without all your help.”

The pair were en route from Goldthorpe to the park Gainsborough when they apparently made a bid for freedom from the back of the truck on Tuesday.

When the new owners arrived at their destination, they found the trailer on the back of their vehicle was empty.
