Hundreds pay final respects to loved Sheffield United fan

Sean Craig Salvin, aged 20, died on December 30 after his red Volkswagen Golf crashed off Ecclesfield Road in the area known as Woolley Wood Bottom.

Yesterday, almost 200 mourners gathered at Ecclesfield Cemetery to say a final farewell to a ‘doting uncle’ with a ‘large character.’

The funeral procession was led by team mates from Players Lounge Athletic Football Club, the Sunday League side Sean played for.

He had been awarded ‘Club Man of the Year’ by the side shortly before his untimely death.

Sean was laid to rest in a Sheffield United striped coffin – testament to his dedication to the team he followed all his life.

During the funeral, Sean was described as having a huge amount of love for his family, including mum Brenda, dad Craig, older sister Lauren and younger sister Sienna.

The service heard how Sean, who was born in Sheffield and grew up in Wincobank, was a ‘doting uncle’ to Lauren’s two young children. Despite many tears at the service, anecdotes of Sean’s action-packed and adventure-filled life brought some smiles.

A rendition of the Blades’ Greasy Chip Butty anthem also lifted spirits – with mourners laughing about how Sean would love seeing the Wednesday fans at the service struggling through it.

Friends described Sean as ‘a bit of a lad with a soul of pure gold’.
