Hundreds of Volvos flood the streets for funeral of popular Sheffield chip shop owner

John Ronie, known affectionately as 'Nosh' passed away at the age of 57 on Monday, April 23, following a short illness.

Nosh, owner of Stanwood Friery in Stannington, was given the devastating news in March that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Standwood Friery shared the upsetting news that Nosh's health had deteriorated 'very quickly' on their Facebook page, four days prior to his death.

Hundreds of heartbroken mourners attended his funeral at Grenoside Crematorium while a convoy of Volvo cars followed the procession through Sheffield.

John was looked after by St Luke's hospice in his final days and more than £600 was raised for charity during his funeral.

Stanwood Friery posted the news that 'Mr Chips' had passed away on their Facebook page, sparking an outpouring of tributes from devastated customers.

The chip shop posted: "As some of you are already aware john 'mr chips' sadly passed away on Monday so we will remain closed for the next couple of weeks, many thanks for all your support xxx"

Ann Jowle posted: "So sorry he was a great and friendly man our thoughts are with you xxxxx"
