HS2 station location

I read JP Sanderson's letter, An ideal solution, of March 28, commending an earlier letter of Professor Davies who has proposed that Sheffield should have two HS2 stations '“ one at Meadowhall for routes continuing north towards Leeds and one at Victoria for those from London terminating in Sheffield.

Perhaps those two writers have not noticed that one of the intended benefits of HS2 is to speed up service times between Sheffield and Leeds and further north via the ‘classic’ lines towards Newcastle and eventually Scotland.

A recent HS2 report, published, March 21, 2016, entitled, Broad options for upgraded and high speed railways to the North of England and Scotland, covers this subject in some detail.

An HS2 terminating station at Victoria would not further those objectives.

So it’s either Meadowhall or Victoria and then HS2 north.

The need, indeed proposal to build an HS3 branch from Lancashire towards Sheffield swings it for me – it has to be Victoria.
