How many jobs has this decision cost?

It was with complete dismay that I read the front page of The Star on Friday, September 9, 2016, as I witnessed the celebrations as 'protesters' had chased yet more business away from Sheffield.
Rockwave Leisure Limited has applied for a sexual entertainment venues licence for a new lapdancing club, Villa Mercedes, to open in Suffolk Road, Sheffield.Rockwave Leisure Limited has applied for a sexual entertainment venues licence for a new lapdancing club, Villa Mercedes, to open in Suffolk Road, Sheffield.

Yet again we have a very small, unrepresentative group of people (180 of a city with a 500,000 population) granted the ability to make decisions for the rest of us, by the ability to shriek the loudest.

I am of course talking about the decision to not allow a strip club to open in the city.

Yet again we have the moral minority dictating what is and isn’t acceptable for the rest of us. Never mind that stripping is voluntary occupation, a job choice made by women who are free to make their own decisions, and the bar is completely operating within the law.

No, we have various professional offence takers, yet again chasing away jobs and wealth from our city. I was not shocked to read Labour MP Louise Haigh espousing the virtues of collectivism in her assessment of events.

Strip clubs operate within the law, and employ people who have made the choice to work there. Nobody is forcing women to become strippers. These women see it is a lucrative form of employment and make the choice to work there.

This is yet again an example of a left-wing Sheffield council destroying personal freedoms in favour of their moral crusade, not unlike the evangelicals we see across the pond, attempting to shut down anything that doesn’t meet their narrow, broken moral compass.

How many jobs has this decision turned away? How much revenue would this have brought to the economy of Sheffield? This is yet again an example of why authoritarian ‘governments’ always fail.

Is this how we greet the death of freedom? With “relief and delight”? It is a sad day for our city, not because I would ever visit said strip club, but because yet again we have turned away jobs and wealth, in favour of moral posturing.

How many jobs has this decision cost? I am sure Louise Haigh will be one of the first to blame “the Tories” when she reads of our city’s unemployment numbers. Just another example of why none of the big three parties represents the best interests of the people.

If only these people had been as concerned with safeguarding the children of Rotherham, maybe we could all display such relief and delight.
