Housing provider pays for activities for older people in Sheffield town

Hundreds of Stocksbridge residents have taken part in a series of events in the town aimed at encouraging older people to get more involved in community life.

Housing and care provider Sanctuary Group donated £1,000 towards the events, which were organised and hosted by Valley React, a local organisation that provides activities and resources for hard-to-reach residents.

Geoff Breen, Sanctuary’s local area manager, said: “As an organisation, one of our main aims is to invest in community-led projects that address the needs of our residents, and Valley React really does offer an invaluable service to local people.

“I would urge all Stocksbridge residents aged 55 and over to go along and get involved.”

Kath Travis from Valley React added: “Sanctuary’s funding allowed us to organise some exciting activities, we’ve been delighted to reach a number of new residents who have been coming along to our sessions.

“The support we offer really can change people’s lives for the better through a variety of resources.”
