Housing plan for old garden centre site moves forwards

Outline planning permission was granted to redevelop the former Dearne Valley garden centre in Station Road, Wath upon Dearne, last year but now developers Hoober Ltd have come up with a detailed scheme for the site, which requires further approval from Rotherham Council.

It would seen 28 two bedroomed apartments to up, accommodated in four blocks of either three or four storeys, with another 30 two storey homes with either two or three bedrooms.

Access to the site would be from two points on Station Road, with an internal road on the estate creating a ‘loop’ for traffic. All the houses would be given at least two parking spaces and the apartments would have a total of 45 spaces between them, in three separate parking areas.

Because of the numbers of homes on the site, planning rules mean some have to be given over to ‘affordable housing’ and while details would need to be agreed with Rotherham Council, it is likely that would include eight of the houses and seven of the apartments.

No proposals have been put forwards as to how they would be operated, but it is likely they would be offered either on a shared-ownership basis, or for rent.
