A housing charity which helps vulnerable people into accommodation has received a prestigious award.
Rotherham-based organisation Action Housing and Support was handed the Duke Of York’s Community Initiative, which is given to only a few Yorkshire groups and charities which have been deemed ‘of real value to the community, well run, and an inspiration to others’.
Action Housing and Support was founded in 1977 to provide housing and practical support to vulnerable people, and it won the award for its HOPE project.
HOPE involves bringing empty properties back into use by getting members of the community to help out with renovation, which also gives them skills and work experience.
The charity is one of only 43 recipients of the award this year, which has been handed out annually since 1988.
