A house has been badly damaged following a serious fire in Darfield in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to a property on New Street in the village near Barnsley at 3am today after fire spread from a caravan parked outside to the property and a double garage alongside it.

No one was injured in the incident but a spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the caravan and garage were ‘gutted’ by fire, while the house was badly damaged.

An investigation is due to take place into the cause of the incident.
