Hospital erects memorial tree

A PRAYER Tree has been put up at a South Yorkshire hospital to allow families whose children have died to remember them.

The white tree, which was formerly in Barnsley Hospital’s memorial garden, has been relocated to the chapel while improvement work is carried out at the hospital.

Family members are now being invited to tie a ribbon on the tree.

Kate Briscoe, specialist midwife in bereavement support, said: “The ribbons commemorate the lives of children and babies who died through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

“Tying a ribbon on the memorial tree is a chance for all members of the family to come together and remember and is also an opportunity to celebrate the life of their baby.”
