The work of volunteers at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice was highlighted to the Chief Executive of Voluntary Action Rotherham during a visit.

Janet Wheatley spent time shadowing the day care team, which runs a range of activities including sensory, music and play therapy.

The trip was organised as part of national Volunteers Month.

Terry Lowell, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Bluebell Wood, said “We have over 350 active volunteers and we are extremely proud of every one.

“Volunteers are integral to us being able to deliver everything we do and we simply wouldn’t be able run our services that we offer to our children and families.

“It was great to welcome Janet and a great opportunity for her to see the true reflection of how much the work of our volunteers means to us.”

Ms Wheatley said: “People here are just absolutely fantastic and, above all else, happy.

“I have been incredibly impressed - the staff, the volunteers, the children and families are inspirational.

“The feel of Bluebell Wood is amazing - the energy is great and it’s clear to see that the volunteers are a huge part of that.”
